Rome to Be Included in 2012, 2013 F1 Calendar

A new F1 report that might make the championship more interesting is coming our way. According to GMMF1, it is still possible that Rome will be the host of an F1 round, with the move being expected to happen in 2012 or 2013, and the info coming from the Italian capital’s mayor, Gianni Alemanno.

The rumor has been circulating around the F1 for quite a while now, with many people dreaming of a street race located in the city. It was believed that political reasons might have prevented this dream from becoming a racing reality until now. However, the mayor came to blow all this away, offering the world a great surprise.

"From 2012 or no later than 2013, a grand prix will take place in Rome,” Alemanno said during an interview for an Italian television.

The mayor added that this will be the country’s second entry in the yearly F1 calendar, as the Monza race is already a certainty.

"This will be the second race for Italy, because the race at Monza is guaranteed," he explained.

Rome’s EUR district is probably the location of choice for the F1 battlefield, with its roads offering more space than those located in the inner city.

There are problems because we have to reach full agreement with the inhabitants of EUR. We have an agreement at the international level,” the mayor added.

"There are no certainties, but our promise is very solid," Alemanno concluded, leaving us with a multitude of hopes.
