The team over at Rinspeed made it a habit out of bringing out a new concept at each of the Motor Shows hosted by Geneva. Next year, the Swiss-based company will be bringing its Budii concept out, a car based on the BMW i3.
Starting from the premise that ‘we need to redefine the relationship between man and machine’, Budii might show us the way to modular, autonomous cars. According to its creator, Frank M. Riderknecht, such cars will not only make traveling easier for us but also drastically reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on the roads.

"We should not develop a blind, but rather a healthy faith in the new capabilities of the hardware and software. They will keep learning each day, and as a result will get better and better at mastering the complex challenges of modern-day private transport,”
he said about autonomous vehicles.

The electric vehicle they will bring out at Geneva is aiming to prove exactly that wanting to become the driver’s ‘best buddy’. It will also be featuring some sort of an autopilot that quickly adapts to the needs of its owner.

It's all quite mysterious

No further details are offered other than that Budii was created for inner cities and nearby locations and that it will not only cater to the daily routine most of us go through but also weekends and special trips. There’s also a steering wheel that works drive-by-wire design that allows it to move from one side of the car to the other so that the front passenger can steer as well. If neither occupant of the car feels like driving, the steering wheel rests right between the seats, in the middle of the dash.

"The transition from traditional to autonomous driving will take place in stages. Consequently, man and machine will still have a few years left to get used to this new form of mobility and the different interplay between people and technology it will entail, time they both will need,” added Rinderknecht.

We also have a hunch that the exterior design will be quite ... interesting, to say the least. That’s because amongst the partners and suppliers that will help Rinspeed create the Budii we found Mansory.
