Rimac e-M3 - Fastest Accelerating EV in the World

This BMW M3 E30 may look quite unassuming, as it looks like any other. However, the green paintjob should hint at the fact that this particular car is special. How special? Well, with 600 hp, delivered seamlessly to the rear wheels by a massively powerful electric motor, it is really special!
It also features a huge torque figure of 900 Nm (663 lb-ft), which helps this particular car achieve its amazing 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds and its top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). The car is the work of Mate Rimac, the CEO of Rimac Automobili, the creators of the stunning Concept One.

The idea behind the car arose out of necessity, as Mate Rimac’s E30 M3 blew its engine, and he decided to turn it into an EV. The car was refined over time, to become the record-breaker that it is. Having been clocked at 11,808 at the quarter mile marker, and at 23,260 past the 1 km mark, it was named the world’s fastest accelerating EV.

The run where the numbers were recorded took place on a military aircraft runway, near Zagreb, in Croatia, back on April 17th 2011. The records are currently awaiting FIA approval.
