The Japanese automaker is one of the world's most prolific (aside from little-known Chinese brands, probably) companies – this year, it had a tidal wave of novelties across its most important regions.
In America, for example, we have seen significant and small introductions like the Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, Corolla Cross Hybrid, an entire family of Nightshade limited editions, a trio of special GR series (GR86 Trueno, GR Corolla Circuit, GR Supra 45th Anniversary), the first-ever Grand Highlander, N400 Tacoma, the return of the 2024 Land Cruiser, as well as the 2025 Camry mid-size sedan and the 2025 Crown Signia crossover SUV. And that's just to name a few of the most important.

But is that enough for the average fan? Probably not, which is why the rumor mill is diligently trying to find out what comes next – with a bit of help from the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. More precisely, the good folks over at the PoloTo and A1 Cars channels on YouTube have some AI-assisted CGI visions about the potential rebirth of the Toyota MR2, as numerous reports are stating how the Japanese carmaker is actively considering another sports car model for its lineup.

Not necessarily a fully-fledged GR model, this revived MR2 could position itself even lower than the current GR86 – which kicks off at $28,400 in the United States. According to the reports flaunted across the Internet, Toyota could go as low as $23k with its fourth-generation, modern MR2, even if it decides to keep the traditional mid-engine layout. That's all thanks to a small 1.0-liter turbo engine with 121 or 150 hp, by the way. Well, it doesn't sound like much, right?

But at least the Toyota MR2 would look pretty darn stylish if we are to believe the resident pixel masters from both A1 Cars and PoloTo. The former channel's CGI expert even has two versions – a sleeker one emphasizing style over performance and a fastback treatment with muscular design. That's probably thanks to AI-assisted software, by the way.

As for the latter virtual artist, the MR2 feels directly derived from the GR Supra, especially considering the rear ducktail treatment – while the front is a lot more unique and clearly emphasizes the lateral air vents that are always needed to secure the airflow to the midship-positioned engine. Well, do take all these renderings with a healthy dose of salt because nothing is fully official from Toyota just yet.

Besides, the company may go with the EV flow and transform the recent FT-Se concept into the spiritual EV successor of the MR2. That's also a distinct possibility, although it won't make people too happy because the resulting sports car would probably have a pricing strategy more in line with the GR Supra rather than the base GR86.
