A 1962 Chevrolet Impala that has already been part of a meticulous restoration is looking for a new owner as part of an online auction.
The car, which flexes the highly desirable SS tags, hides one big secret under the sportier appearance: it's not a genuine Super Sport but only a clone that received the treatment everybody drools over during the restoration.

eBay seller vehiclesellingsolutions says the car has been sleeping in a garage exclusively after the restorers finished the overhaul, so the car is now in nearly perfect shape. The interior has been restored, too, and the bucket seats (exclusive to the SS models) look spotless.

Aside from a couple of small bubbles on the hood, the paint looks great, requiring nothing to get back on the road.

The front and rear ends have been rebuilt, the drum brakes have been restored, and the car now comes with newer tires and windshield. It features a push-button AM radio, a dual exhaust, and a restored tachometer.

Now, let's talk engines.

1962 was the second model year for the Impala SS, but Chevrolet was already working on making the sporty upgrade more appealing to customers. The SS launched in 1961 as a $53 package, and it could be installed on any Impala, regardless of the engine choice.

The GM brand provided the 1962 Impala buyers with more powerful options, dropping the famous 348 to make room for the almighty 409 big-block. The new engine was available in two versions: 380 horsepower and a single four-barrel carburetor and 409 horsepower and two four-barrel units.

This SS sports a rebuilt 409 engine, and because it's a clone, the owner wanted the car to provide the best of the Super Sport package. As a result, the car received a dual four-barrel carburetor, so it now sports the most powerful powertrain configuration available on the 1962 Impala SS. The four-speed manual transmission has also been rebuilt, so the car starts, runs, and drives like a new Impala.

The battle for the SS clone is already underway, and I'm not surprised to see so many people trying to get their hands on it. The car received 35 bids, but with only a few hours remaining until the auction ends, it looks like the Impala will fail in its mission to find a new home. The owner configured a reserve, and the top $32,700 offer couldn't trigger it, meaning someone must send a last-minute hefty offer to give this car a second chance.

I expect this Impala SS clone to land on eBay again in the coming weeks, so if you want to see it in person (assuming it won't sell today), you must book a ticket to North Canton, Ohio.
