RENNtech G Wagen CDI Concept Soon to Surface

It was only yesterday that we reported on a new contraption based on the Mercedes Benz G klasse cross-country vehicle  revealed by Carlsson Aigner at the 2009 Geneva Show. We come back on the subject today to take you across the ocean to Florida, where the local Mercedes Benz Gelandewagen tuner RENNtech released photos of their own design.

Called RENNtech G Wagen CDI Concept, the model presented RENNtech with a choice between two powerplant versions. They intend on using either a 3.0l V6 turbocharged engine that produces 224 horsepower or a bigger 4.0l turbo diesel, jalopnik reported. Keep in mind the above mentioned specs are available for the engines “as is”. Most surely, RENNtech will tweak the units to a higher level of power.

From the design point of view, the American bulked up Mercedes will a bit more eye-friendly than its German counterpart. The CDI Concept retains more of the allure of the model it's based on. The body sculpture is not that creative and does not shake the American's general predisposition to the use of straight lines.

If the Concept is produced in the same form as PlatuneDesign showed in the photos they released, the car will feature a wide body kit and a lot of metal insertions. The color chose to clothe the metal skin is a two tone blueish-gray paint, which doesn't look bad at all.

The huge wheels do seem a bit over-scaled, but used on this car they fit the American perception of an off-roader: square, dark, and with unnecessary wide rubbers. But, as we said, it's an improvement from the bling-bling machine of Carlsson Aigner.
