Renault Partners with Enerji

The need to create the best infrastructure possible for the line of electric vehicles in plans to roll in the year to come has taken French manufacturer Renault all the way to Istanbul.

There, the French manufacturer signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Istanbul Enerji through which the two parties will work for establishing a charging network for electric vehicles.

Renault plans to roll out its electric vehicles in Turkey in 2011. By then, it plans to have most of the infrastructure in place, as well as all the corresponding services and developments.

“Strengthened by the synergy created between Renault and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the parties have decided to launch preliminary work with a view to encouraging the adoption and promotion of electric vehicles,” the carmaker says in a statement.

For the task at hand, Renault and the city of Istanbul will set up a joint working group which will be tasked with the implementation of the terms agreed upon this week.

Their main tasks will be multiplying the number of projects that could favor the use of electric vehicles in Istanbul, installing and developing a network of charging stations and analyzing the regulations on installing and operating electric vehicle charging stations.

To date, the alliance made by the French manufacturer with the Japanese from Nissan has resulted in MoUs being signed with more than 50 governments, municipalities and companies with the goal to promote EV mobility. Both Nissan and Renault plan to rely heavily on electric vehicles for their future.
