Renault-Nissan Alliance's efforts to pave the way for the introduction of mass-production are increasing in intensity these days, as the release date for the Nissan Leaf is approaching. After earlier this week the alliance made its way to Madrid, Sao Paulo is the next target of the two carmakers.
Together with the municipality of Sao Paulo, the two signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which will form the basis for the introduction of EVs in the city.
"Sao Paulo municipality has been incisive in implementing actions against global warming. We have created municipal policies focused on climate change and we have a kind of an inventory about emission gases and greenhouse effect in São Paulo, which has been our guideline," Municipal Secretary of Green and Environment, Eduardo Jorge, says in a release.
"The establishment of this partnership is a complementary step to minimize gases emissions."
As part of the agreement, Sao Paulo, Nissan and Renault will study the opportunities and investments needed to make possible to use electrical automobiles in the city. A working group will be set up by the three partners to accomplish this.
"Renault-Nissan Alliance has already signed similar partnerships with more than 50 governments, municipalities and organizations all over the world. This memorandum points to the future and presents a new possibility to further improve the environment and the comfort of the people of Sao Paulo", said Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance.
