As announced by Fernando Alonso on Thursday, Renault have made some slight adjustments to their aerodynamic package for Shanghai, as well as revising their rear suspension. The R29 is to feature those new changes from as early as the Friday free practice.
“I know that some parts are arriving late as well at the last moment. I think we will introduce small details as we did in Australia and Malaysia to the aerodynamics. Mechanically as well I know there is some improvements to the rear suspension as well to improve our rear grip – which was our main problem in the first two grands prix,” confirmed Alonso earlier today.
The Spaniard expects the new changes to boost the R29's performances in the qualifying sessions, where Renault are currently struggling to get both its drivers into Q3. In the previous two grand prix, Renault managed a single Q3 performance, at Sepang. Alonso revealed Renault will constantly revise their 2009 challenger in order to close the gap on championship's front-runners.
“We will introduce new parts in every race and hopefully we can close the gap because now we are suffering to be in Q3 and this is not ideal. We need to be closer to the front-runners,” said the Spaniard.
Ferrari are also expected to come to China with some new changes on their aerodynamic package – mostly focused on their front wing – while BMW are set to debut their Kinetic Energy Recovery System for Robert Kubica also.
