The new BMW X1 will be going on sale this autumn and promises to take its rivals by surprise. Those going up against it are the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and the Audi Q3 and, truth be told, they don’t really stand a chance.
The Mercedes, for example, uses Renault engines on its entry-level units and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. What is a wrong decision from the Stuttgart-based manufacturer though is keeping it a secret from its customers.

On the other hand, the Q3 is rather compact in size and too small by comparison. The old X1 might’ve been overshadowed by the Audi but with the new model around, things are coming around.

The 2016 BMW F48 X1 migrated to a front-wheel drive setup for a couple of reasons (like offering more space inside and being cheaper to build) but it’s not like prospective buyers noticed anything anyhow. Don’t believe me? Check out the video below, where regular people were invited to offer their insights regarding the new model.

They talked about the interior space, the exterior design, the standard features, basically everything. But nobody made one reference to their disappointment in learning that the new X1 is FWD. One person said that he knows it’s no longer RWD, but he also said that it’s a good thing because it allows engineers and designers to offer more interior space.

Overall, everyone was impressed with how the new crossover turned out. When it came to the buying decision, most said that they are actually considering it and that means a lot.

What’s even more impressive is how it stacks up against its older brother which, in turn, was regarded as a big success by the brand. With prices starting at just over €32,000 in Europe and $34,800 in the US, the new X1 might be a hit once again.
