Talking after Ferrari's second pointless performance in Malaysia, Raikkonen admitted he is putting most of his hopes in the meeting of FIA's International Court of Appeal, scheduled next week (April 14th). The international body will analyze the different diffuser designs used by the three teams and give a final and undisputed verdict on the matter.
The Fin argued FIA's decision will influence decisively the title fight this season.
“The next race is in China, but a couple of days before FIA’s Court of Appeal will decide about the diffuser. This decision will have an enormous impact on the Championship,” said the Ferrari-an in a statement on Ferrari's official site.
No matter if the new designs are cleared by the FIA or not, Kimi argued Ferrari must find immediate solutions to improve downforce. Whether it will be by copying the designs of the “diffuser three” or come up with new ideas, this is the one area the F60 really needs improvement in order to catch up with the leading teams.
“We need more downforce and we’re working very hard on it. You just need to analyze the performance in the three sectors at Malaysia to understand that we’re loosing a lot compared to the best cars. You can see that especially in the middle section, where downforce is really crucial,” added the former world champion.
Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo had a crisis meeting with the team staff at Maranello the other day. After a few hours spent in one of team's locker rooms, the Italian expressed hopes that the team will bounce back as soon as possible.
