Prost Would Be Honored to Take Renault Job

Although Renault are yet to unveil their successor for the team principal job in Formula One – while probably waiting for the FIA verdict on the crash-gate – several names have been rumored by the media in recent weeks.

After Prodrive's owner David Richards insisted, yesterday morning, that he didn't hold any talks with the French manufacturer for the aforementioned position, the name of 4-time world champion Alain Prost came to light. However, just like Richards, the Frenchman insisted no negotiations have been carried out with Renault during the past few days.

He did however suggest that it would be an honor for him to return to Formula One as team manager of France's iconic car manufacturer, hinting that he won't turn down such an offer.

It's just rumors,” said Prost, referring to the claims that he has already secured Briatore's seat at Renault. “It would be an honor but no one from Renault has been in contact,” added the former Ferrari driver for Italy's La Stampa newspaper.

Another very important name linked with the team principal job with Renault is Frederic Vasseur. The Frenchman is currently co-owning GP2 Series' team ART Grand Prix (with the son of potentially the new FIA president Jean Todt, Nicolas) and admitted the proposal – even if appeared only in the media – sounds “very flattering.”

According to Britain's The Guardian, another important name to be taken into account by the Renault officials is Citroen's world rally team boss Olivier Quesnel. However, this option seems unlikely to become real, as Quesnel is currently eyeing the WRC title with Citroen and has a challenging job of keeping the French manufacturer on top of the rally standings in the upcoming S2000 era.
