Porsche Sales Explode in China in 2010

The awful year German sport car manufacturer had in 2009 is now behind it. Building on the newly found love it shares with the company it once tried to take over, Volkswagen, Porsche enjoyed enough peace in 2010 that it is now able to report very strong sales results.

The car maker sent on the Chinese roads 14,785 vehicles last year, representing an increase which is well within the limits of the growth registered by other luxury manufacturers in the region: 62.7 percent.

Known for their taste for big cars, the Chinese liked the Cayenne the most, buying more than half of the total Porsches sold in 2009: 8,612 units. Proving, once again, that the new comers to the Porsche range lead the sales, the Panamera model sold 3,833 units. The Boxster range came in third, but far behind the Cayenne, with 2,340 units sold last year.

All of the above figures amount to a new sales record for Porsche in China, who thus joins other manufacturers, not a few, who have reported similar achievements for the past year.

“We can look back on an extremely successful 2010”,
said Bernhard Maier, Porsche board member Sales and Marketing. “The new sales record clearly illustrates the excellent position of Porsche on the growing Chinese market. In future we will offer an even greater range of products and services.”

Hoping to build on last year's results and create the premises for even better ones in the future, Porsche announced it was planning a major expansion of its Chinese operations. More specifically, the car maker intends to triple the size of the dealership network in the region.
