Platform sharing is now so commonplace, most people don`t even give it a second thought. However, it does result in a lot of cars which look different, but drive very much the same. Now, though, as the expected launch date for the more compact Macan SUV, Porsche have announced that it will drive in a completely different manner to that of the Q5 on which it’s based.
According to Wolfgang Hatz, the Macan will certainly not be “a Q5 with a Porsche hat on [. . .] Everything has been modified [. . .] Engines, transmissions, suspension - it’s all new. Audi can’t believe what we’ve done.” Also, the announcement comes along with another very important one - the Macan will be the first modern Porsche vehicle to sport a four-cylinder engine, and while it may not be available from the start, it will be added to the range some time after launch.

We say the Macan holds a lot of promise, and since we know Porsche can make anything ride and handle beautifully, we say the Cayenne’s smaller brother will do just fine, and will be very capable.
