Porsche-funded Road User Education Project Inaugurated in the UK

The UK’s new SKIDZ Hillingdon road user eduction project is now open, with the first courses running, following financial support and development from Porsche Cars GB.Hillingdon has joined High Wycombe, Banbury and Reading as the fourth location for the SKIDZ project, which is a registered charity that works with at-risk young people to re-direct them away from a potentially criminal career path and into garages to offer them motor industry experience.

The courses give young people age 13 to 19 a chance to gain vocational skills in motor mechanics in an adult work-style environment so that they have a better chance of finding future employment,” stated the press release.

The project’s new center will enable hundreds of young people across the London borough of Hillingdon to develop their passion for motor vehicle maintenance and safer road usage. The project has already seen growing interest from the local youngsters, with over 120 students expected to enroll in the road user education project this year.

Back in 2008, Porsche pledged a 375,000 donation to SKIDZ, following the award of legal costs from a campaign victory over the proposed introduction of a 25 pounds congestion charge for larger vehicles in London.

We are passionate about teaching young people about motor vehicle maintenance and when Porsche approached us with some generous funding, Hillingdon was the obvious choice to develop the SKIDZ project. We are extremely grateful for their help in setting this up and are very excited to be able to open such a fantastic workshop for these young people to learn in,” said Steve Godfrey, Director of the SKIDZ Motor Project.
