Porsche China to Inaugurate 13 Dealerships in 2010

As, we’ve previously reported, premium sports car producer Porsche plans to sell 10,000 cars on the Chinese market in 2010 after its 2009 Chinese sales saw a 13 percent increase, reaching 9,090 units.

One of the measures taken to achieve this is the expansion of the company’s Chinese dealer network: Porsche plans to inaugurate 13 new dealerships in China this year, as Gasgoo reports. The country is the carmaker’s third biggest market – in January, Porsche’s sales in China saw an increase which exceeds 100 percent, reaching 1,900 units (compared to the figure registered in January 2009).

Porsche has forecast that China will become its second biggest market by 2012, surpassing Germany. The estimated sales figure for 2012 would be somewhere around 16,000 units, after this year’s target of over 10,000 cars.

The carmaker will also introduce new models to the Chinese market in the current year, in an effort to compete with other luxury car producers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, as Helmut Broeker, chief executive officer of Porsche (China) Motors Ltd was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

China’s rising wealth has made luxury vehicles more affordable for premium consumers and carmakers which activate DDDD in this segment of the market are willing to make the most of this opportunity.

Porsche is expecting positive results for its 2009/2010 global financial reports and is partially counting on markets such as China to achieve this, as it is facing difficulties on the North American market.
