Back in February, we spoke to a Porsche source who confirmed that a more potent diesel-powere Cayenne is arriving this year and now we’re back on the topic as new details have surfaced.
The Cayenne Diesel S (this is the vehicle’s expected designation), which will use a V8 engine, will only by offered on the European market, leaving the Americans with the recently-launched V6 diesel version, as Car and Driver writes.

The main reason for this decision is that Porsche would have to invest a hefty amount of money into the vehicle’s US emissions and safety homologation and the company probably doesn’t see this as being necessary since it’s just launched a diesel Cayenne on a market that doesn’t prefer oil-burning SUVs anyway.

As for what will be under the bonnet, the 4.2-liter V8, which is currently offering 340 hp and a peak torque of 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) on the Touareg, is still the most likely candidate. Until we find out exactly what the Germans are cooking, you can check out our Cayenne Diesel review here.
