Porsche is currently focusing on the US market, with the company forecasting that its sales will double to around 50,000 units per year by 2018. While the new 911 Cabriolet should be great under the California sun, it’s SUVs that Americans really want.
In the press release covering the the auto show debut of the new drop-top sportscar, Porsche has put an official announcement regarding the Cayenne Diesel on the table, saying it will be in US dealerships after the 430 hp Panamera GTS, which is coming later this year.
This should land in the US in the second half of next year and is expected to account for 15 percent of Porsche’s sales. The 240 hp 3.0-liter diesel, which has already arrived in America under the bonnets of the Audi Q7 and VW Touareg, but it will be the first diesel-burning Porsche now.
The German automaker has also reminded us that the smaller SUV
they have planned, nicknamed the Cajun, will debut in 2013.
