While the platform sharing involving the Porsche Cayenne and the VW Touareg generally brings benefits for both sides, a voluntary recall issued earlier this week now sees both models being affected by the same problem, namely a potentially faulty pedal assembly.
The campaign seen the carmakers recalling over 800,000 SUVs, over a clip that may have become dislodged from the pedal bracket. This could lead to pedal assembly failure, which can obviously increase the risk of a crash.

The recall, a worldwide action, affects vehicles belonging to the 2011-2016 model years, with over 409,000 of the cars being Porsche Cayenne models.

As we mentioned, this is a voluntary action. The vehicles will be inspected, with the clip being reinstalled if necessary. Porsche and VW dealers will cover the operation free of charge.

Dealers will contact customers to inform them on the matter, with the vehicle inspection estimated to last no longer than thirty minutes.

"Vehicle owners will be contacted directly by the dealer responsible for them. A workshop appointment that will be free of charge will be arranged as quickly as possible and will take less than half an hour," a statement issued by Porsche reads.

As the company explains, the issue was discovered during internal testing. This also means the problem was solved on the fly, covering vehicles produced subsequently.

"The problem was identified during internal inspections and remedied in production. This is a purely precautionary measure, as there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this concern," Porsche explains.

The action comes to show that, no matter the age of a model, issues can appear in the production process - both SUVs are currently at the end of their life cycle, having gone through their mid-cycle revamp. We're glad to see such campaigns being introduced as voluntary actions and expect nothing less in such situations.
