Porsche’s supercars are not really what they’re supposed to be. Instead of raw machines that look cool and make a lot of noise, they’re more like exercises in engineering to develop technologies for the regular cars that follow.
So far, there have only been two such iconic machines, the Ferrari F40 rivaling Porsche 959 and this, the Carrera GT. Soon, this will be superseded by its successor, and so it’s time to take a look at what made the mid-engined Porsche so good.
At the time of its launch, the German car manufacturer Porsche announced that approximately 1500 units of the car will be built but the production was ceased in 2006 with a total number of 1270 units. This makes it quite rare, and considering production started in 2003, its 612 horsepower V10 engine is quite impressive, granting it a top seed of 205 mph with a 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
