Porsche 928 Official Sketch Revealed

Rumors about future Porsche models are flooding the Internet these days.

After a German newspaper received a confirmation for the development of a Porsche mid-size SUV from a company insider, it is now time for an official source to offer a hint on a new Porsche model.

Porsche Consulting has posted the image you see here on its homepage, setting the web on fire with the news that this is the new 928 model.

Rumors about a front-engined Grand Tourer from Porsche have been floating around the web ever since the German carmaker announced that it was building the Panamera, with various sources indicating that the fresh 928 would use the model as a base.

It would be a far stretch to say that the car you see here will make it into production, bringing back the 928 nameplate, which was removed in 1995.

However, the releasing of the sketch does offer a hint that Porsche is seriously considering building the model. Maybe this was just the German carmaker’s way of testing the public response. After all, it does seem pretty simple: create the design exercise, release it and then scan the comments posted on automotive websites to see whether the newcomer will be well-received or not.

Using the Panamera as the base for the new 928 makes sense, as it would allow the company to reduce development costs. The coupe wouldn’t be the only extension of the Panamera platform, as Porsche is also likely to build a convertible version of the vehicle.
