Porsche has just announced that the 918 Spyder supercar has recently lapped the Nurburgring track in Germany in a time of 7 minutes 14 seconds. This is 8 seconds faster than the previous time of 7 minutes 22 seconds, which was set in July.
This puts the car right up there with the world’s fastest models, about 2 seconds slower than the Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR and Gumpert Apollo Speed, but about 10 seconds faster than a 550 hp Nissan GT-R, and 8 seconds faster than the Corvette Z06 Z07 Package.

Porsche has confirmed the car in question was equipped with the optional Weissach Package, which removes the air conditioning and entertainment to make it 34 kg (77 pounds) lighter.

The car’s current provisional performance figures stand at 0-100km/h (62mph) in less than three seconds and a top speed in excess of 325km/h (202mph). It also comes with a hefty price tag – €645,000 in Europe or $845,000 in the US, both before tax and extra charges.
