Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Coming With 500 BHP for €180,000?

Have you ever noticed how Porsche likes to bridge the gap between models? The output of the Cayman fits neatly between that of the Boxster and the 911 sportcar. Rumors of a more powerful, special edition track-oriented car have been circulating the internet for months, and now the specifications appear to have been leaked online.

It seems that Porsche indeed has a GT3 RS 4.0 on the way and it should provide about 500 horsepower from the 4-liter flat-six, effectively bridging the gap between the GT3 RS and the GT3 Cup. This is about 50 hp more than the existing GT3 RS, which is already 15 hp up on the standard GT3.

The spec sheet also reveals important details, such as the €150,000 price tag before tax, or €180,000 after 20 precept VAT. While that might sound like a lot for a stripped-out 911, we expect it to sell fast.

It looks like the new car will come with the same six-speed manual gearbox - with a short-throw gear lever - which is also optimized for low weight and high efficiency. To enhance the level of performance throughout the entire range of engine and road speeds, the gears have a shorter transmission ratio than on the 911 GT3, deliberately making concessions in terms of higher top speed.

Naturally, Porsche will charge an arm and a leg for the extra gadgets, interior luxuries and performance mods in can provide. For instance, a lightweight battery will set you back €1,929, Ceramic Composite Breaks cost €8,784 and the nose-lift apparatus you need to protect your bumper from speed traps... €3,000.

The spec sheet was posted on the Teamspeed forum, and while the author says its legitimate, a rebate has started over potential falsification, pointing out certain discrepancies, such as the 2011 model year instead of 2012 and that it looks to be for the British market.

Whether its authentic or not, Porsche won’t be able to keep the lid on the GT3 RS 4.0 for long. Should make one heck of a track attacker!
