Collette Carpenter, now ex-Special Constable has resigned her position prior to any disciplinary proceedings taken against her. She resigned after crashing with her car into biker David Bartholomew,  who subsequently died.
Bartholomew was 54, and experienced rider from the same region where the accident occurred, Dorset, UK.

Evidence shows that the 23-year-old special constable Carpenter was using her cellphone at the time of the crash. Carpenter admitted she was using the phone but claims she had the device on her lap, using the speakerphone at the time.

Crown Prosecution Service is unable to prove the contrary due to insufficient evidence, and declared that Carpenter will not be charged with the killing of Bartholomew. Carpenter pulled out of a road side in the path of the motorcycle; David Bartholomew died of head injures and multiple fractures just hours after the crash.

David's son James, a motorcyclist himself, added : “Not only is she not to be prosecuted, she was also given the opportunity to resign.” A Facebook support group (Justice for David Bartholomew) has gathered a whopping number of over 4,100 supporters since the decision not to charge Carpenter as reported in the press.
