I've found myself becoming increasingly interested in off-road vehicles in recent years. While I'd love a lifted Y61 Patrol, that's not where I am aiming. Going fast is still pretty much what drives me forward, and a few machines are rather good at that.
I've ridden almost a dozen ATVs since 2016, ranging from the smaller 150cc units to the much more exciting 850cc models. My wife is pretty fond of them, as they're not quite as fast as a motorcycle, and she can sit comfortably in the back. While I acknowledge these are cool if you just want to go out for a chill Sunday drive and a barbecue, I need something more than that to get my adrenaline pumping.

The only SxS I've ever experienced had a 963cc V-twin, and I'll never forget how much fun I had that day. One of my buddies even rolled his unit, but that's beside the point for now. We all knew that we were test-driving entry-level models. And we were slightly terrified at the thought of what a Turbo Polaris could do with the right driver behind the wheel. But the Minnesota-based company has something even wilder for you if you can stand the heat. The RZR Pro R uses a ProStar Fury 2.0 engine, and there are enough hints to reveal what's waiting at the turn of a key. Imagine sitting in a machine lighter than a Mazda MX-5, with more power than one.

The four-cylinder motor is capable of a maximum output of 225 hp, and I'm already shivering at the idea of test-driving it one day soon. But today, I'm here to discuss something that just turns the heat up to 11: the Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory. Polaris introduced the first iteration of this race machine about a year ago, and it proved to be a winner.

A lot can be said about how well the RZR Pro R Factory performed last year, and I plan to schedule a few interviews with some of the team's top drivers and team members for a more detailed perspective. But it's worth noting that Brock Heger won the SCORE Pro UTV Open Class Championship while the team won the Manufacturer's Championship.

The engineers at Polaris were busy during the off-season, working on the second iteration of the off-road racing machine. It will show everyone what it can do starting this week's San Felipe's 250 race. I don't think the race version of the RZR Pro R still has a Rockford Fosgate system inside, but I could imagine the soundtrack playing inside the driver's heads for the duration of the race.

It's bound to be a mix of country and rock'n'roll, given the scenery and the pace at which they're charging at it. I find it fascinating that the company that Polaris worked with on designing the all-new one-piece chassis provides services similar to those of NASCAR. We already knew the RZR Pro R could go past 100 mph (161 kph) with the speed limiter off, so I wonder where the Factory machine will top out.

But what happens in between should be much more exciting, given the new partnership with MoTec. The upgraded ATL fuel cell should provide a range of up to 200 miles (321 km) but don't worry about the extra weight. Polaris has made it a target to use more carbon fiber with the Gen 2 race SxS, but I have yet to see the official numbers here. It seems like I'm adding a new racing series to my watch list for this year, so I'll get back to you with more information on the team soon enough.
