With multiple brands gathered under the Polaris badge, 2012 was a very profitable year for the group: official figures released earlier show a 15% increase in total sales throughout 2012, and a whopping 24% increase in gross profit numbers.
Polaris sold 22% more off-road vehicles in 2012 compared to 2011, reaching 567,103 units, while the snowmobile sales were up 9%, to 154,563. The biggest increase was in the on-road vehicles segment, with an incredible 36% and 47,383 units sold.
Polaris is the owner of Victory Motorcycles and has recently acquired Indian Motorcycles. While Victory celebrated their 15th anniversary, legendary Indian bikes are up to a complete revamping in 2013: new engines, all-new bike touted to be faster, lighter and cheaper. Needless to say that Polaris aims to make Indian a very worthy competitor for Harley-Davidson once more.
The Milwaukee bikers also had a good 2012, though not as spectacular as Polaris, so we can expect a very fierce battle this year, especially as the new Indians will make appearance in Sturgis.
