Plasan to Establish Carbon Fiber Plant in Michigan

Plasan Carbon Composites which has been developing carbon fiber high performance parts, has won a Michigan state tax incentive package to establish a carbon fiber plant in the state. We’d also mention that the company has been manufacturing lightweight parts for Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Viper and Ford Shelby GT500, gaining this way its reputation as a top manufacturer.

The the process of using carbon fiber improves fuel economy by reducing the total weight of a vehicle. This manufacturing branch is becoming a more important part of the auto industry’s “repertoire” for dealing with public and governmental demand for ever-improving fuel efficiency.

After the “deal is sealed” Plasan Carbon Composites will receive up to $3.4 million in tax credits over the next few years for setting the grounds to a 200-employee carbon fiber parts manufacturing facility in Walker city Michigan, near Grand Rapids.

The carbon fiber composites manufacturer was acquired by Israel-based Plasan Sasa in 2006. Plasan Carbon Composites is mainly specialized in carbon fiber roofs, fenders, hoods, trunk lids and various structural parts including seat frames, inner body panels and engine cradles , creating a lighter “doorway” towards lighter and more economic motoring. Statistics show that 100 pounds(45kg) of the weight off a car can increase fuel economy by 1.5 percent.

The manufacturer will relocate its activity into a former book distribution warehouse with 200,000 square-feet of manufacturing and office space. Plasan expects to take about three years to fully develop the facility and to reach full employment and output as soon as possible
