Pirelli Will Modify Super Soft Tires for 2011

We have been hearing a lot about the new tires developed by Italian company Pirelli for the 2011 Formula One championship, and most of the reports suggested a highly degradable compound put in place by the new sole tire supplier of the series.

As reported a while back, Pirelli was in fact asked by none other than F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone to deliver some kind of tires that would lead to multiple pit stop races in the season to come. And the Italian did just that, only that they might have exaggerated with some of their compounds.

While the hard tires for the 2011 campaign are able to get a driver going for 15 to 20 laps, the medium is highly degradable. However, the real problem comes when speaking about the soft and super-soft compound, the latter of which last for only couple of laps.

Talking to Swiss newspaper Blick following the latest group test in Jerez, reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel insisted that the super soft tires will not be long-lived (under their current form) in the F1 championship this year.

This compound will hardly be seen at a grand prix in 2011,” he was quoted as saying to the aforementioned source.

However, it is understood that Pirelli has really listened to the latest critics coming from the drivers' way and will bring a newly-developed compound at this week's test in Barcelona, the last running in Europe before the 2011 F1 season kick-off in Bahrain.

Pirelli will bring a modified version of the super-soft and soft tires (to Barcelona), in response to feedback from the teams following the first official tests,” confirmed the Italian supplier via a statement.
