Pirelli Presents the Scorpion Verde SUV Tire

Pirelli has chosen the Indiana International Testing Circuit in Barcelona, Spain to present its latest product, the Scorpion Verde SUV and crossover tire.

The Scorpion Verde is a tire that offers both high performance and eco-friendliness, through the use of innovative materials and a new structure. Its composition only includes aromatic oil-free materials and decreases fuel consumption by up to 3.9 percent (urban cycle) or 3.4 percent (combined cycle). It reduces acoustic emissions by 30 percent, while promising to ensure uniform tread wear and an increased lifespan.

The new tire offers a 20 percent decrease in rolling resistance, is lighter and uses 10 percent fewer raw materials, offering a higher level of environmental protection. These achievements have been obtained through the development of an optimized profile and the use of technologically-advanced materials. Pirelli engineers have also aimed to optimize the design process and reduce the tire’s energy dissipation.

The materials used for the Scorpion Verde have been developed through the use of new technologies, including nano-filler particles, a polymer structure that allows the tire to adapt to the driving conditions and hybrid fibers, which combine a wide variety of materials. The tire offers a high level of driving safety on wet roads, through the use of a pattern that features 4 deep longitudinal grooves. It also uses compounds that have been engineered to achieve greater grip on wet surfaces and features reinforced shoulders that increase lateral grip on all asphalt conditions.

The Scorpion Verde joins Pirelli’s Green Performance tire line-up, introduced in 2008. It will be available on the "replacement market" starting from April.
