Piquet to Do Second NASCAR Test in January

Former Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr. is more likely to make it to the Daytona International Speedway opener in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series next season rather than to the Bahrain Grand Prix grid. As much as he wants to be part of the F1 roster next season, the Brazilian driver is yet to receive a single drive from one of the new teams entering the series in 2010.

Instead, it has emerged that the son of triple F1 champion Nelson Piquet will conduct a second test with Truck team Red Horse Racing, and might indeed make his NASCAR debut from as early as the Daytona race in February.

Following a recent test, Piquet is scheduled to drive the racer again at Florida's New Smyrna Speedway mid next month, and a full-time seat for 2010 is a possibility,” said a report from the GMM news agency, citing the USA Today newspaper.

The Brazilian driver found it very difficult to renew his connections with the world of Formula One, following his involvement in the famous crash gate earlier this season. After admitting to the fact that he willingly took part in the race fixing of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Although he insisted that he wants to return to Formula One in the future, several of his former colleagues – Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa being the most vocal – hinted that the Brazilian will not be welcomed in the Great Circle, especially since he walked out of the entire affair without any ban from the FIA.

Most recently, he was linked with a racing spot with Campos Grand Prix, but the Spanish team has already opted for fellow countryman Bruno Senna for their 2010 campaign.
