Pininfarina Unveils Coachbuilt B95 Barchetta: Costs $4.8 Million, Packs 1,874 HP

Parented by Mahindra, just like the legendary Italian car design firm and coachbuilder Pininfarina SpA, this luxury electric vehicle manufacturer is headquartered in Munich, Germany – but doesn't forget about its roots. Hence, it's logical that its design facility and office locations are in Turin, Italy.

Interestingly, its connections spread even further inside Europe, as their first car, the Battista EV hypercar, presented at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2018 with 150 units planned for production, is deeply related to Croatian EV maker Rimac Automobili and its stunning Nevera hypercar.

And, to hold the circle complete, Automobili Pininfarina has brought the newly introduced Battista Edizione Nino Farina plus their recently unveiled PURA Vision EV crossover design concept to this year's Monterey Car Week. Alas, those two didn't arrive alone, as there's a third novelty called Automobili Pininfarina B95.

According to the company, we are dealing with "the first-ever all-electric hyper Barchetta," a coachbuilt creation inspired by the PURA design vision. The name is easy to explain, by the way. The 'B' logically stands for Barchetta, and 95 marks the spot for the 95th anniversary of the legendary design house Pininfarina SpA in 2025 – that's when clients start getting their tailored B95s.

The open-top, windshield-less Pininfarina B95 Barchetta is obviously taking a swing at ICE-powered models like the Ferrari SP twins, Aston Martin's V12 Speedster, or the McLaren Elva. They may not be the most successful products out there, but clearly, there's a market for these vehicles that urge you to wear a motorcycle helmet to avoid insect injury.

And Pininfarina even thinks it can snatch almost $4.8 million on each piece, given the €4.4 million starting price. Rarity is guaranteed for the money, as the coachbuilder won't make 95 examples but only ten units – all "crafted for collectors worldwide." This world-first pure-electric hyper Barchetta also features another world-first – a set of adjustable twin aero screens designed to "preserve B95's elegant design while shielding the occupants, for the ultimate Barchetta driving experience."

Speaking of the latter, Pininfarina is sparing no technology expenses, and B95 has the same "state-of-the-art powertrain that delivers breath-taking performance in the Battista hyper GT." However, to increase its exclusivity, all units will feature bespoke tunes of the high-capacity 120 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric motors with a combined 1,400 kW (1,900 ps/1,877 hp).

The sprint, for example, should take less than two seconds to 69 mph (96 kph) while the top speed is more than 186 mph (300 kph). Meanwhile, the T-shaped battery pack is encased in a lightweight carbon fiber housing and can be charged at up to 270 kW (20 to 80% SoC in 25 minutes). Cool, right?
