Peugeot EX1 Electric Concept on Display in China

Initially designed to celebrate the company's 200th anniversary, the EX1 electric concept is now displayed by Peugeot in multiple regions around the world, probably in an effort to demonstrate what the French carmaker is capable of in the green sector. The car was last week revealed in China at the Taipingsi military airport in Chengdu, as nddaily.com reported, where a few drivers got the chance to put the 340 horsepower electric powertrain up to test.

Peugeot hasn't stated very clear what's the reason behind the decision to present the concept car in China, but the French manufacturer actually managed to catch our attention with it, mostly thanks to the way the vehicle behaved during the tests. According to the aforementioned source, the best 0 - 100km/h (0-62 mph) time was 3.58 seconds, which is pretty impressive, given the fact that we're talking about an electric model.

Two electric motors are used to power the EX1, one on each axle, each with a peak output of 125 kW (250 kW / 340 bhp in total), and a maximum torque of 240 Nm.

The car was displayed by Peugeot at the 2010 Paris Auto Show to celebrate 200 years of existence, with the design inspired from previous concept cars like the Asphalte and 20Cup. The body styling was first seen on the SR1 concept car earlier this year, while the polished aluminum components that adorn the door surrounds refer to the RCZ and BB1.

The car is powered by lithium-ion batteries and uses several top-notch technologies to recharge the batteries, such as a solar panel roof that transform solar power in electricity.
