During a recent interview with Autonews Europe, Peogeot CEO CEO Maxime Picat said a great many things about resale value, brand ambitions and premium quality. But the real revelation was not that the 308 is good value, it was that the Lion is preparing the R version of the 208.
The company already offers a 200 PS turbocharged GTi hot hatch, and apparently more power is to come. The R logo on the RCZ means 270 PS, but we think the 208 won't be able to handle that much.
Instead, the 208 GTI should have the 230 PS or so expected for the 308 GTi. This would make it one of the most powerful cars in its class, certainly a decent speed machine considering the 208 is among the smallest and lightest superminis.
For reference, we'll tell you the 208 GTI uses a 1.6 THP engine rated at 200 PS at 5,800rpm and 275 Nm at 1,700rpm. It gets from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km/h. It's only available with a six-speed manual and doesn't have a limited slip diff like the RCZ R does.
