Peugeot 508 Gets Five-Star Euro NCAP Rating

Euro NCAP released a batch of comparably similar test results for models available on the European Market, and it’s now time to see how Peugeot’s latest four-door sedan - the 508 - did. As you might expect from a modern European car, it got the maximum five-star rating, the same as the Lexus CT 200h, Ford Focus, Nissan Leaf and Citroen DS4, but delve deeper into the results an a much different picture starts to emerge.

The French model received 15.6 points for the frontal impact, 7.7 for side impact protection and 6.9 for the more radical side impact with a poll. Dummy readings of the ribs indicated adequate chest protection in the side barrier test, with good protection of the other critical body areas. In the more severe side pole test, chest protection was marginal. The seat and head restraint offered good protection against whiplash injuries in a rear-end impact, according to Euro NCAP.

Child occupant protection was also excellent, with the Peugeot excelling in 18 month old and 3 year old categories for a combined efficiency of 87 percent.

“The protection provided by the bumper to pedestrians' legs was good in most areas tested but poor in some. The front edge of the bonnet offered poor or marginal protection. In most areas likely to be struck by a child's head, the bonnet offered good protection. However, in those areas likely to be struck by an adult's head, the bonnet provided poor protection,” the European safety organization says about pedestrian protection.

In the safety assist department, the 508’s ESC (fitted as standard) was well liked, and so was the Speed Limitation Assistance that is optional on basic grade variants in a few European countries but is otherwise standard equipment.
