The European-made Peugeot 3008 was never really a looker, and it attracted buyers with its clever, spacious and high-quality interior, good driving dynamics and decent engines - the exterior styling was always its weak point.
It was also imported into China for a while, but now local production is poised to begin, yet the car differs from the Euro version - it is actually a facelift. The Chinese-made 3008 adopts the new ‘Peugeot family face’, currently seen on the 208 and 508, and it’s all the better for it. Also, it will be considerably cheaper than the model imported from France, and it will feature a lot more chrome, which apparently is still very popular in the PRC. The interior also gets updated, with some new trim pieces, as well as new flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Powering the updated 3008 will be the 1.6-liter turbo unit, available in a variety of other Peugeots, as well as an older naturally-aspirated unit, both of which can be mated to either a five-cog manual or a six-cog automatic gearbox. Expect it to debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show, later this month.
