While many petrolheads haven't heard about it, the Pegaso brand is best known in its home country Spain. In its 46-year existence, the company mostly built buses and trucks, but a few special sports cars were also produced. This Z-102 was one of them.
Although it was the 1950s, Pegaso engineers employed motorsport technology in its alloy body and chassis. Just about everything was produced in-house at a factory in Barcelona, the exception being the beautiful body shell. Coachbuilders such as Carrozzeria Touring, Serra and Saoutchik handled the bodywork, and this cabrio wears the latter's clothing.

Saoutchik was a French company founded by a Russian cabinet maker in 1906. Needless to say, you only need to check out the gallery below to see how extravagant and exquisite these guys designed car bodies. Some of the most flamboyant designs were made for the 1948 Cadillac Series 62, Delahaye 235 and the utterly magnificent 1939 Bugatti Type 37.

Gooding & Company expects this gorgeous drop-top supermodel to fetch anything between $900k to a whopping $1.4 million at this year's Pebble Beach auction. This 1954 Pegaso Z-102 Cabriolet is adorned with a dramatic low-cut windshield and its beautiful body is propelled by a 2.8-liter V8 motor fed by two-barrel Weber carburetors. Chassis #0136 boasts with 240 horsepower sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed stick shift transmission, as well as independent front suspension and a De Dion rear axle.
