Paul Tracy to Make Craftsman Debut in Texas

Canadian Paul Tracy is set to debut inside the Crafstman Truck Series this weekend after securing a drive with #9 Germain Racing Toyota Tundra for the upcoming race at Texas Motor Speedway. The 40-year old driver will return to stock racing after a 2-year absence in which he competed for Forsythe Racing in the Champ Car Series.

“Germain Racing is a championship organisation, and I'm excited to be behind the wheel of the Bombardier Learjet/Sport Clips Toyota Tundra in Texas. Todd and I are good friends, and I'm looking forward to helping him and the Germain Racing team win the race in Texas and gain spots in the point standings. I appreciate them giving me the opportunity, and I will do whatever I can to support their effort at Texas,” said Tracy.

The Canadian has previously ran 6 races in NASCAR, all inside the Nationwide Series. He never quite made it though, as he changed 2 teams in the process and only managed a 24th place finish in season's opener at Daytona International Speedway. His average finish percentage was a disappointing 33.6, ranking an overall 76th place in the drivers' classification.

Tracy was left without a racing seat for the entire 2008 season after the two major open-wheel-racing series in North American – Champ Car Series and IRL – unified at the beginning of the year. With Forsythe not willing to make the change to newly-former IndyCar Series, Tracy had to sit this one off. His only out for 2008 were a 4th place finish at Edmonton (Vision Racing) and a 11th place at Long Beach (Forsythe).

Rather than spend the year hoping to secure a seat for the upcoming IndyCar Series season, Tracy decided to test for Craftsman's German Racing team at Chicagoland Speedway back in May. The session went well and secured him at least one off in the championship in the closing stages of this season. He will more likely use this opportunity to advance to Nationwide Series next season and, maybe, the Sprint Cup later on. With most of the IndyCar teams already set for 2009 in terms of starting lineups, his chances of returning to open-wheel racing are very improbable.
