The Vette received several notable changes in 1961, including more subtle refinements that addressed some of the biggest customer complaints.
In addition to the restyled front and back, with the latter now using the signature Corvette four-piece taillights, the car also received aluminum radiators as standard equipment and a redesigned exhaust placed directly under the rear bumper. The previous Corvette came with the exhaust integrated into the bumper, causing the back of the car to be dirty after every long journey.

Chevrolet produced 10,939 cars for this model year, all fitted with 283 engines – the top choice produced 315 horsepower on the fuel-injected engine.

The 1961 Vette in these photos landed on eBay with tear-inducing purpose. The car sells for parts, as putting it back together and bringing it to the road is an ambitious goal that nobody seems to be interested in.

eBay seller samsfd says the Corvette was taken to a paint shop 43 years ago. The mechanics stripped it down, but the repaint was never finished. The car ended up disassembled in a garage, where it remained until it was pulled not long ago.

Despite selling for parts, the Corvette is 95% complete. It only lacks the radio, the carpet, the grille, and one part of the side chrome. Otherwise, it has everything you'd need to put it back together in one piece, as all the parts already removed are in the car.

It's safe to say this Corvette doesn't come in tip-top shape. The four decades in a garage produced the typical damage, so the seats and the door panels are rough. The doors, the hood, and the trunk lid are resting on the car for presentation.

Surprisingly, the Vette still has an engine, though it's not the original unit. The owner says it's a later 283 paired with a four-speed transmission, but it's unclear if the mill at least turns over by hand. I wouldn't expect good news on the engine front unless the V8 comes from a different car that donated it recently (not when the Vette left for the paint shop).

Unfortunately, the Corvette looks ready for the final goodbye, though I'm pretty sure someone with solid experience in the restoration business could bring it back to the road. However, buying the car won't be cheap, as the owner won't let it go unless someone is willing to pay $28,000. The listing will expire in 26 days, and if you want to see this Corvette in person, you must travel to Feeding Hills, Massachusetts.

eBay's statistics indicate the Corvette has already caught the attention of many petrolheads, as 169 users are already watching the listing. Fingers crossed for at least one to send an offer and keep this Vette alive.
