Another milestone has been reached by Porsche's fourth model, the Panamera, as the German manufacturer announced today it has produced the 25,000th model at the Leipzig plant. The Panamera was launched in September 2009.
The special-for-the-carmaker model is a ruby-red Panamera equipped with a 3.6l six-cylinder engine which develops 300 hp. According to Porsche, the vehicle will be shipped to an unnamed customer in the United States.
“The benchmark performance of our Panamera V6 models wins over our customers worldwide. Even in the USA, a country with a preference for V8 engines, they impress with their efficiency and sportiness. The 4-door combines these aspects with the comfort and exclusivity of the luxury class,” Bernhard Maier, Porsche Sales and Marketing vice president said in a release.
The announcement of the milestone comes just after rumor about the Panamera getting a hybrid version increasing in intensity. The addition of a hybrid to the Panamera line will be made possible by the powertrain already featured in the Cayenne hybrid.
That means the car will be fitted with a 3.0l supercharged V6 petrol engine which develops 333 hp, paired with an electric motor developing 46 hp.
The hybrid powertrain fitted on the Cayenne proved to be an immense success for the German manufacturer, so transplanting it into the Panamera would make economical sense.
In mid-July, the carmaker announced it has received 16,000 orders for the new Cayenne in one month. 15 percent of those orders were for the Cayenne S Hybrid, a model which was launched one month after the other versions.
