Pagani Zonda R-Ultimate Performance, No Rules...

...except for safety. At least this is what Horacio Pagani, the company's founder promises from his new creation, first presented at the Vienna Auto Show. Pagani said Zonda's goal is the ultimate performance at the racetrack without any implications of rules, except for safety, where no compromise is allowed.

The high performance monster is propelled by a 48-valve 6.0-litter V12 engine acquired from Mercedes-Benz's AMG division. It puts out 750hp and has a maximum torque of 710Nm. Harnessing the power is the job of a 6-speed sequential gearbox from XTRAC, which also runs the big Pirelli P Zero rear 335/30/20 tires. Together with the front 255/35/19 tires, the Zonda R bursts from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.

Weighing only 1,070kg thanks to its carbon fiber body, the Zonda can reach a top speed of 350km/h. Once you reached that point, Pagani very well assumed you will also have to stop, so he fitted Carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes to help you do just that. The central carbon chassis will incorporate a roll cage and a rubber racing fuel tank with 4 fuel pumps and quick refuel filler like on GT race cars.

The wheelbase has been increased by 47mm to offer the best stability. The front and rear subframes are brand-new, built to accommodate a new suspension geometry, produced in avional. The magnesium forged rims with central wheel nut and a quick pneumatic lifting system allows fast and effortless changes of the slick tires.

The Zonda R is a car designed from scratch, with only 10% of the Zonda F components to be carried over. The new racer is not street legal, so you won't be able to enjoy it outside a track. If you can enjoy it at all, given the fact you will have to pay in excess of $1.8 million to get your hands on one. And you have to be very quick too, as Pagani says he will build only 16 units.
