OnStar Reaches 1,000 Users Milestone in China

Two months after GM's OnStar has been launched in China, the company announced, not without sime sense of pride, it managed to reach the 1,000 users milestone on February 28, when Shanghai OnStar activated the anniversary subscription in Shenyang.

“Having OnStar available in my new Buick Enclave will make driving safer and provide me greater peace of mind in my travels,” said Dai Yongping, the man who will forever be marked in OnStar's books as the 1,000th Chinese customer. “I am honored to help Shanghai OnStar reach a new milestone.”

In China, OnStar is offering Automatic Crash Response, Automatic Airbag Response, Emergency Services, Remote Door Unlock, Remote Horn and Lights, Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Location, Good Samaritan, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Destination Download Assistance, OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics, On-Demand Vehicle Diagnostics, Hands Free Calling, and Point Of Interest Assistance.

For now, the only vehicles to be available with the service are the Buick Enclave and Cadillac SLS. In 2010, OnStar intends to include the system on 2010 Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet models from Shanghai GM. OnStar's move to China comes after last year, GM registered a huge increase in sales locally.

"We are so proud to be able to bring these great services to the people of China.” Chris Preuss, the new OnStar president said in a release. We’ve responded to hundreds of thousands of requests for assistance over the years in North America, and we look forward to extending that same level of safety, security and peace of mind to our Chinese subscribers as we continue to expand.”
