OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics Email: 100 Million and Counting

GM proudly announced today their OnStar system sent the 100,000,000th Vehicle Diagnostics e-mail to its customers and to celebrate, decided to give us an idea of how much money we can save by using the system.

The Vehicle Diagnostics feature of OnStar provides alerts on the vehicle’s key operating systems including the safety ones. To the point, tire pressure alerts can help us save $70 each per year in fuel costs (for the entire OnStar customer pool, that amount rises to $30 million per month, says GM), while oil life alerts will help your wallet retain an extra $30 each year.

We’re extremely proud because this service really makes a difference for our subscribers in their everyday lives,” Beth Foley, OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics marketing manager said in a release. “In today’s challenging economy, we recognize that our subscribers need us to help them save time and money now more than ever. OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics is one way we can help them do that, while furthering our commitment to keeping drivers safer and more secure on the roads.

Of course, you could look at the all thing from the other perspective. Having subscription to two OnStar plans for instance (Safe and Sound and Directions and Connections) will cost you around $500 each year. More than you can safe by using Vehicle Diagnostics, yet...

The Vehicle Diagnostics e-mail are being sent at no extra cost, provided you are an OnStar subscriber. If you are in the habit of actually using the e-mail address you own, the system will turn into a very useful reminder to check your car's health every once in a while.
