Volvo may have taken the SUV world by storm with the new XC90 late last month, but the old model doesn’t seem to be ready for retirement just yet. The model will live on as the XC Classic, traveling to China for this adventure.
Since this is somehow presented as a new model for the country that represents the world’s largest auto market, the Volvo XC Classic is set to have its... official debut in Beijing, on September 15. According to carnewschina, the model is scheduled to hit the market in October, just in time for the SUV season.
Volvo’s owner, Chinese carmaker Geely, hasn’t gone through too much hassle for the Classic model. As you can see in the image above, the only major design change will see the front apron and the side mirrors receive a touch of extra chrome.
As far as the technical side is concerned, this will be a one-engine car. Under the hood of the SUV, we’ll find the good ole 2.5-liter T5 petrol unit. Nonetheless, power is bumped 11 horses to 220 hp, while buyers will be able to choose between a manual and an automatic, both sporting five ratios.
While Volvo will offer the XC Classic as an affordable large SUV, the new XC90 will also make it to the country starting from the beginning of next year.
The situation is even more interesting when you think about the fact that the old Volvo XC90 has been with us since 2002. Some call the model that appeared in 2007 the second generation of the car, but this was actually a major revamp. Talk about Asian longevity...
