The problem of too many cars clogging up China’s roads is a really serious one, as with most of the world’s countries, its cities were clearly not designed to cope with the number of cars which would be using it if the number of registrations would run rampant.
And so, after limiting the number of new registrations at 20,000 per month, the list of applicants waiting for a license has now reached the one million mark, and people are beginning to lose hope. This means that about 1 in 53 applicants will be getting their license - 80% fewer than in January of last year.

Despite the fact that applicants whose efforts fail two months in a row will be automatically re-entered into the lottery. This measure is necessary because since 1997, the number of cars in Beijing has risen from around 1 million to some 4.76-million nowadays, 800,000 of which were added 2010 alone.

People are getting frustrated and a reported 8.9% agree with the way things are being done, proof that forcefully limiting people’s freedom is never really the correct answer, no matter how stringent the conditions may be.
