Norton to Enter Commando Cafe Racer in Thundersprint 2011

After winning the 2010 event with a brand new Norton 961 ridden by the factory’s UK Sales Manager Chris Walker, the British brand will try to repeat the feat at next year’s Thundersprint. Norton has just revealed it plans to return to the event which will be held over the weekend of May 7-8, in Northwich town center.

This time, the brand will enter a race version of our new Commando Cafe Racer, but the one who will be in control will be the same Chris “Stalker” Walker.

“We had a fantastic time at this year’s Thundersprint. The crowds were enormous and our 961 Commandos were extremely well received,” Norton CEO, Stuart Garner, said in a release. “Best of all, Chris “Stalker” Walker - who just happens to be our British Sales Manager - won the first time out on the 961. It was the first win in a long time for Norton and it meant a lot to us.”

“For 2011, we will have an even bigger presence and Chris will be riding a race version of our new Commando Cafe Racer - the bike which really began life at this year’s Thundersprint,” added Garner.

“Norton were hugely popular at this year’s Thundersprint and it is great to have such an iconic factory back with us - but with even more stand space and more bikes on show,” stated Thundersprint organizer, Frank Melling. “We’re also delighted to have Chris Walker return to our “Grand Prix in a Car Park”. The “Stalker” certainly lit up the track - quite literally - with his all action riding and I wouldn’t bet against him setting an outright track record in 2011.”

In addition to that, Works Racing Motorcycles will also be showing their all-new Norton Manx - a faithful recreation of the world famous Norton GP racer of the 1960s.

Norton is also considering a MotoGP entry for the 2012 season, as the new regulations will permit 1000cc engines to make their way into the series.
