Nissan VP Gets Honorary Degree

One of Nissan iconic management figure, Andy Palmer, the current senior vice president and executive committee member at Nissan Motor, was honored today by the Coventry University with a honorary doctorate of Technology.

The degree has been awarded by the university in recognition of the vice president's involvement and achievement in the automotive industry. Having worked for Nissan since 1991, when he joined the Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) as business administration manager, Palmer quicly moved through the ranks.,

In 2001 he became deputy managing director of NTCE, but only remained in this position one year, being drafted by Nissan to join the light commercial vehicles (LCV) division in Japan, as program director.

Two months ago, the executive was the one who presented the sketch of a yet unnamed 2013 Infiniti EV at the Infiniti Centre Piccadilly in London, previewing the future production direction of Nissan.

"It is will great humility that I accept the Honorary Doctorate. As a 16 year old Coventry apprentice, I would never have dreamed of being awarded this honour. It would not have been possible without the stewardship of key mentors in my career, nor without the dedication and support of the people who have worked around me,” Palmer said when receiving the degree at the Coventry Cathedral.

“I thank Coventry University for considering me, my family for their support over the years and to all the people of Nissan who have guided and helped me. I would therefore dedicate the award to my family and all Nissan employees and thank you all sincerely".
