You know what they say: hindsight is 20/20. We can't predict the future, but by the end of the decade, we're going to look at Nissan's video game car, the Vision 2020, and say it changed everything. But wait, it's not just a video game car any more, as a full-scale version will become tangible sooner than you can say "the next-generation GT-R will be a hybrid".
A day from now, Nissan is going to take another step into its own future by unveiling a real-life version of the 2020 Vision Gran Turismo it created for the most popular racing simulator game around. Why is that important? Because it's going to be so cool that fans will adamantly demand they build a new GT-R in it's image.

A full scale concept of the Vision 2020 will officially debut on Thursday 26th at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, in front of thousands of people gathered to see it. Like all good things in the auto world, this project is born from passion, that of the youngest designers working for Nissan, "were given free rein to create the perfect supercar for their own Gran Turismo fantasy garage."

Taking a complex and futuristic shape originally designed for the Gran Turismo 6 video game and turning it into reality is hard enough. However, there's more to it than meets the eye. Just like a GT-R, this concept uses four-wheel drive and Nissan innovated with active suspension and air flow management, racing technology that ensures extra handling prowess.

Despite the Goodwood debut, Nissan is saving this concepts dynamic debut for the Gran Turismo 6 game. The Vision 2020 will be part of an update scheduled for July. After choosing one of ten distinct colors available for it, gamers will be able to sample this futuristic GT-R on any track they like.

“This is in line with the Nissan philosophy,” says Koji Nagano, Vice President, Nissan Design Europe. “In reality, not everyone would be able to own a car like NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, but through Gran Turismo anyone can drive it and experience Nissan’s promise of delivering innovation that excites."

Update: Nissan has released a short video as well, detailing the design process and thinking behind the 2020 concept. For insight into the future of the GT-R, look no further than this next clip.

"The design from a team at Nissan Design Europe based in London was seen to have so much potential that it benefited from input from an engineering team based in Japan. Adapting design cues from current Nissan performance models, it was created from scratch using the latest digital design tools. The first, and to date only, physical representation of the car is the actual concept model," Nissan press statement reveals.
