NightSUP’s technology emerged in the fall of 2011, from Cape Ann SUP lifeguard/surfer team needing a safer and more effective way to rent their paddleboard fleet after dark. Soon enough, what started as a technology for safer paddling at night has turned into an incredible and beautiful way to view nature. The Miami-based company sells paddleboards with pre-installed kits or installs the kit on customers’ existing board.
Imagine slowly cruising on smooth waters while you paddleboard lights up you moonlight trip through the unseen nature of the ocean. Well, using NightSUP’s illuminated paddleboard it’s actually possible.
Based-in Miami, the company specialized in making the “glowing” boards sells them with pre-installed kits or installs the kit on customers’ existing board, on request. The system integrates a permanent LED system that is glassed into the rails of the paddleboard, creating a 40-foot (1,2 m) circumference of light around your board.
This hydro-dynamic design is a permanent installation to existing paddleboards which has no straps or exposed parts. Fish and wildlife which are not normally visible in the daytime are easy to see and observe when using these boards. Illumination is powered by a proprietary 12-volt system, with a rechargeable battery. The kit is $249 (EUR 182) on their website and in stores, and the cost of professional installation runs from $200 to $300 (EUR 146-219).
