Take this with a grain of salt, or maybe a dozen grains of salt, but a report from Brazil's Automotive Business says the next generation VW Fox will be based on the new MQB platform, which so far has only underpinned compacts like the Golf and Skoda Octavia.
They say the replacement for the affordable Latin American hatchback will be ready by the end of 2015 or by early 2016.
THe MQB platform is supposed to offer cost-savings for the Automaker, thanks to its modularity, plus a reduction in overall weight. However, older reports stated Skoda will not use the MQB platform for the next Fabia, so we're not sure that even the Polo, its sister car, will have the "miraculous" platform.
Is Volkswagen really going to use its expensive technology on a car that currently uses inexpensive ethanol?
Until the new Fox is launched, Volkswagen of Brazil will focus on launching the Up!, followed by local production of the Golf.
