New Zealand Preaches the Electric Vehicle Ways in Special Bootcamp

"Bootcamp" is a very hard word for something as gentle as a car that doesn't hurt the environment, but that's just what New Zealanders needed to learn about the benefits of battery-powered vehicles. The event took place today at the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) in New Zealand and as a matter of fact, it involved nothing from the image above.
CPIT organized a free EVelocity bootcamp to make secondary school students more curious about electric vehicles, which at this point seems to be the key in our future transportation.

While we’re not sure how many kids attended an event which combines ‘electricity’ and ‘bootcamp’ in a single phrase, CPIT chief executive Kay Giles said they were “very happy to get involved in an initiative that helps secondary students engage with new technology in a practical and innovative way” and that “electric vehicles are definitely the future as we explore better and more sustainable options for our world.”

The students that cared more about saving the planet than beating the Candysmash score, were able to learn about how electric vehicles work and how the infrastructure needs to be changed in order to implement them.

Icing on the cake arrived as a geeky kit containing different components produced overseas and selected by local educational engineering suppliers Electroflash. The students had to assemble the parts in order to interactively understand the principles behind any working EV.

The big idea with the EVelocity bootcamp and the following ones to come is to get New Zealand up to date with electric vehicle technology, hoping that some day it will be home to several EV manufacturers.

Which seems a nice idea, but with large automakers now shutting down their factories in the area there, they may consider themselves lucky if some electric scooter manufacturer signs a deal.
